We are drowning!

drowning-12

(This post was mailed to us by Vishal Metha one of our users. He has shared and express his tale (nightmare)  in this recession.)

Hi my name is Vihal metha and i’m a users of yqworld.com and also follow your blog. It’s here where I read about the article that was posted by you on recession http://www.yqworld.com/yqblog/?p=137though the article was not on recession, it had more on how to save and make sure that you’re not going to lose your job.

I have been reading about recession on your site, I always thought this will not touch me. I was under the impression that recession is for others and my job is not at stake. But today this very recession has taken away my job and I see myself one amongst the many who have lost their job.

I was always in command as far as my job was concerned. I worked hard, had a wonderful team under me who kept the deadlines and we together met almost all the targets given to us.

And slowly I could feel the recession gripping me.

recession

I could see that we were not able to meet the targets in time. Revenues were fast depreciating and one fine morning the top bosses did what they are supposed to do in these days of slowdown. They axed my job.

This was a shocking revelation and struck me hard. Until a few days everything seemd to be working perfectly. And now all of a sudden it was all gone.

Today I don’t have the money and don’t have a job. I am sitting at home doing nothing and this is killing me now. I have applied at many places for the job but since no one is looking to hire I think am not going to find one soon.

Though today I have lost everything, my faith is still intact. I am sure that good times will come soon, all we have to do is hold on and let this recession storm pass us.

If you have  you anything to share or to express then please do share with us.

Preparation For SSC exam

Being a parent of a class X student is not an easy task. This is my first hand experience. My daughter who is going to take her SSC exams in this March informed me that I have to be present for a meeting to be held in her school. “It means forget about your afternoon nap”, I told myself. Considering the fact that I need this so much, she seemed to be understanding and did not pester me to attend it.

As I learnt from her, the meeting was being held to discuss how students must attempt these all important papers. I didn’t know that this is something that the parents needed to know, and hence I showed my reluctance to attend this meeting.

While I was peacefully tucked in bed in the hot afternoon, my daughter came to me and woke me up. Apparently she seemed to be a little depressed that I was serious about not attending this meeting and she convinced me how important it was to go there.

Working women always live in the guilt of being not too helpful to their children and this guilt enveloped me at that instance and I decided to keep this appointment. On reaching the school, each of the subject teacher came forward and explained what the children must do while attempting to take this all important exam.

Listing a few instructions here that may be helpful to all the parents like me and also the students:

1. Make sure to take a photocopy of your hall ticket.

2. Keep the hall ticket at home for any emergency.

3.Do not leave your child and go away, be there at the examination centre until the paper begins and all is settled.

4. Go to the exam centre a day in advance and make sure that your ward’s roll number is written on the desk.

5. Make sure that the time-table you have is correct because there are composite Hindi, and Sanskrit papers that have different timings. One mistake can cause serious damage.

6. Go to the centre in uniform which will save your time in choosing what you want to wear.

7. Keep your pencil box ready a day in advance.

8.  Make sure that your ward has brought the hall ticket back after the previous paper.

9.During geography paper do not forget to carry stencil of maps along with well sharpened pencils.

10. Sleep well during the exam time to make sure you do not feel sleepy while attempting the paper.

11. Eat well and drink lots of water during exam days.

12.  Do not venture out in the sun during this time.

These were a few instructions given to the parents which I feel I must share with those parents who are as lazy as I am. For had it not been for my daughter I would not have gone for this meeting at all.

Best of luck !

Are You Looking At PR As A Career Option?….Read this

Can you impress all and sundry by your sweet talk? Can you manage to weasel out of the toughest situations by the gift of gab? Then a career in public relations is just right for you.

If you possess these soft skills you are here to stay. A liking for meeting people from different walks of life, an extrovert nature, the ability to absorb information about various topics and good organizing skills are an asset in this profession.

What’s really important in a PR professional is a thirst for knowledge. Everyday, you are learning something different. This skill, combined with strong command over languages, adds to the skill set of an ideal candidate. A PR professional is generally required to be present at conferences, parties, interviews and events organised by his or her company.

This could stretch to late evenings and sometimes even nights. But if you are lazy bones and need to hit the bed at 10.30 every night, PR is not for you; you should opt for a 9 to 5 job!

Willingness to travel is another characteristic required of the PR professional because a large-scale event might drag you to different places in and outside India.

Physical attributes do matter to a certain extent as does good grooming; remember, this is a people-related job. So scruffy hair, bohemian attire and sneakers are NOT acceptable at the workplace at all.

The ability to get in touch and stay in touch is probably the greatest skill required of a PR associate. If you are bad at remembering names, saving telephone numbers and writing e-mails, look elsewhere.

Celebrity PR is the one who manages the media and public image of high profile actors, sportsperson, musician. They are the one who handles all the media controversies of the celebrity.

Flexibility is an absolute prerequisite. You should be able to adapt to anything. Fresh graduates from any discipline can make a career as PR associates. PR is a mass media field and is best learnt on the job. There are many courses available that impart formal training and prepare you for a career in PR. However, there’s only so much that a PR course can teach you. Like journalism, most of the tricks of this trade are learnt on the job and through interactions with people.

The recent mass media boom has resulted in several colleges introducing courses in public relations under the collective Bachelor in Mass Media umbrella. This three year degree, recognised by major universities in India, is offered by many graduate colleges. If you missed the bus earlier, you needn’t fret just because you opted to graduate in another discipline. Various diploma courses are available to teach you the basics of a public relations job.

Most colleges offering PR courses put their students on an internship with PR companies or consultancies for anything between two months to six months. The cost involved for a course? It varies between Rs 8,000 per year for a three-year BMM degree to around Rs 12,000 to 15,000 for a year-long diploma.

Distance learning attributes

ver2a4With education getting expensive day by day, many student are now preferring to stay back home and take up a online course. It’s not only due to education becoming expensive there are many other factors that makes student to take up online courses like, living far away from institute, working along with studies.

One needs to be very dedicated and has to make a strong decision to take up distance learning because it’s very difficult to be sincere since there is no teacher, friends or classroom. You many want to discontinue the course after sometimes. You are the only one and one needs to be honest, discipline and must dedication to learn.

One needs to have the following attributes to take up a distance learning course.

Dedication: This is most important attribute that one needs to have because if you don’t have that will and commitment to do it then you will never end up completing the course and will suspend it half way.

Self motivator: You need to pull and push yourself forward since there would be no one to give you that support and motivate you. You have to have faith and believe in yourself to motivate you and get done with the courses.

Discipline: You should not take up distance learning program if you are procrastinator. It’s not for some one who keeps pushing and postponing their work to later dates. You need to complete your assignment on time.

Focus and resisting distraction: Since it is online course and you learning while sitting at home there tend to be lots of distraction. Mobiles, online games and social sites etc. You should be able to cope up with all this and avoid being getting distracted by them. Need to focus on your goal.

Understanding Skills: In schools and colleges you are use to listening the lectures and taking notes. If you don’t understand then professor explains it to you and again and makes you understand. In distance leaning it depends on your comprehension skills; means you have to read yourself and understand should have strong grasping power. There are video and audio clips but most of  the material is in written text.

Hardware and tech friendly: One must have a good system (pc) to work on with high internet speed. You need to be tech friendly and should know how to use modern day computers and software.

These are then few points that one need to consider before taking up an distance learning course.

Studying Patterns

How many times have you heard this “Study study if you want to get good percentage” this is something that we all have heard million of times during our school and college life. And lets face it, its not a big secret. We all know we need to study good if we want to score good marks. But studying good doesn’t mean that we have to study 18 hrs a day or doing  “all nighters” yea it may work sometimes but not always. Good and quality study are not a quick fix, it takes time and practice for good and quality study.

Said that what may work for you may not work for your friend. We all need to figure it ourself self what works for us and what doesn’t. Many teachers and expert are trying to figure it out what makes a student understand and learn better. Each student and own his capacity and different style of learning.  But we all have atleast one of the following strength.

Linguistic: interpreting words help them learn best

Logical/Mathematical: math, numerical or logical processes help them learn best

Movement/Kinesthetic: action or “doing something” helps them learn bestMusical: musical patterns and/or performances help them learn best

Spatial: using the patterns of open or tight spaces helps them learn best

Interpersonal: understanding the meaning and intent of others helps them learn best.

Intrapersonal: understanding one’s own feelings and motivations help them learn best.

Understand what your studying pattern and follow it, don’t be shy and think that people will laugh at me if I study loud. If you can’t study with people around you then find yourself and personal room and place to study. There are student who writes down everything again and again to help them memories, there are student who like to walk while studying. We all have our own style of studying and one should stick to it.
